On 26th September 2015, exactly 100 years after Arthur won his Victoria Cross, there was a ceremony in Ipswich to unveil a commemorative paving stone for Arthur at the main gates of Christchurch Park.

It was a beautiful sunny day and members of the two families and the public started to gather. As well as honouring Arthur we were also there for  Private Samuel Harvey VC who was a resident of Ipswich although he was born in Nottingham and was in the York and Lancaster Regiment.

The onlookers gathered at the park gates.

The parade, composed of members of the British Legion, started to form up on the road.

The excellent band started to prepare.

The Standard-bearers and the representatives from the Mercian Regiment came to attention.

The Mayor of Ipswich, Councillor Glen Chisholm, opened the proceedings.
