The Memorial Plaque

20593 Sergeant Joseph Canham of the 11th Bn, Suffolk Regiment.  Killed in action 9th April 1917 . Aged 27.

This plaque was on sale on eBay in mid February 2006

The Bronze Memorial Plaque was issued to the Next of Kin of those who died during WW1, or those who died later from causes attributable to service,  Arthur was fortunate in that he survived his horrific wounds and his widow did not receive on of these - often called "The Dead Man's Penny".

There is a wonderful website full of information about the plaques and their history - just click onto the plaque above to go to have a look at it.

These are some of the medals which have recently been sold on eBay - a good source for militaria of the Suffolk Regiment.

They both have the Queen's South Africa Medal, the King's South Africa Medal, (from the Boer War) and the British War Medal and Victory Medal from WW1
